Writing for the web

Posted 9/24/2019

Only 15% of web readers read, 85% of them scan the digital page.

Reading on digital screens is about 25% slower than paper.

All text should not exceed one webpage (corresponding to approximately 1/3 A4 page) - if longer, resume or split.

The screen should not be filled with words - use paragraphs to facilitate  transfer of info.

Use subheadings to catch eyes and direct readings.

Build your text using the news triangle - the most important info should be positioned first, then explain then conclude.

Put yourself in the reader's place and resume the material in short phrases answering to the 5 main quests (who, when, where, why, what)

Simplify info - use links to explanations (like wikipedia) for complex explains but keep things simple,

Read the final text loud (or use a voice synthesizer) to find if there is a good cadency.

Concentrate on text and stay away form complicated graphics, is not printed, it should stay fluid and sweet.
